Muqdisho,(insidesomalia.org)- The African Union (AU) condemned the recent spate of killing of humanitarian workers in Somalia and expressed a need for the perpetrators to be brought to book, a statement from AU peacekeeping mission in Somalia said Monday.
The statement was issued at the end of a two-day working visit to Mogadishu by Nicolas Bwakira, the special representative of the chairperson of the African Union for Somalia.
"It was also an opportunity to condemn acts of terrorism against humanitarian workers and need for the perpetrators to be brought to book," the statement said.
"On the humanitarian front, both the government and the African Union share the view that the humanitarian situation requires the continued mobilization of the international community in order to meet the needs of IDPs."
A number of local and international aid workers have been killed in Somalia particularly in the restive Somali capital of Mogadishu. The latest was the head of Somalia office for the UN development agency who was assassinated last week in Mogadishu.
